CLARK GALLERY

SERVING FINE ART TO THE HIGH COUNTRY SINCE 2001

a legacy that lives on in banner elk

For over 20 years, Chris Clark has served the community by catering to artists, art lovers, and purveyors alike—showing his deep knowledge and sprawling collection of the rare, the regional, and the renowned right in downtown Banner Elk.

At Clark Gallery, we don’t just represent our artists, we cherish them. We champion their work, we tell their stories, and we believe in their vision.

OUR ARTISTS

CHRIS CLARK

Chris’s work is very much a reflection of his studies. It notices and takes care of the subtle details in form, light, and color—rendering still life under the diligent guard and careful attention of a trusted sage. But it also celebrates the tradition of creation, bending it in necessary ways in order to squeeze reverent connection and authentic emotion from a mere two dimensions.

JAMES P. KERR

Kerr’s work undulates gracefully between the abstract and realistic recreations of a place in time. He admits that some of the scenes he now paints may have existed only in his mind, yet still maintains they are as real as any place you can visit. He’s exhibited these works for over 40 years and is represented in hundreds of private and corporate collections across the globe.

KAREN WIMBUSH

Karen’s pieces are stunning compositions of memories, found objects, and shiny collectibles carefully crafted into stunning animal forms. They’re more than labors of love, she explains, they’re acts of service that seek to breathe new life into objects and artifacts from our past.

SAM WATKINS

The high standards of Banner Elk notwithstanding, Sam’s work is among the most vibrant depictions of nature in Clark Gallery. In particular, his use of butterfly wings. The precision in these pieces is only surpassed by the universe of deep blues in each and every wing. Seeing these pieces in person is a wholly different experience.

HUNT SLONEM

Bringing a freewheeling sense of awe, wonder and detail to his wild array of paintings and sculptures and peaceful, mystical living and working spaces, NYC based artist and lifestyle trendsetter Hunt Slonem is considered one of the great colorists of his time.

WAYNE TRAPP

“Wayne was all about being happy and finding new things that make you happy. He encouraged people to live fearlessly, and I think that’s a beautiful thing,” said Becky Trapp, his wife of four years. “He had a zest for life, a childlike curiosity and was romantic about all things. Everything was special to him.”

REBEKAH TRAPP

Rebekah comes from a long line of creative thinkers. From an early age, she was encouraged to create and experiment with different tools and materials. Rebekah draws great inspiration from her outdoor adventures, which can be seen in her use of colors and free-flowing organic forms within her work.
